Does Your Content Team Need A Mindset Shift?

How do I get my team to think like owners?

This week, I’m leading a workshop for an association on one of my favorite mindset shifts in marketing and product growth: moving from organization mode to owner mode.

The activity I’m leading with their 25-person team is simple but powerful:

Prompt: You and a small group of your colleagues just acquired a media product (podcast, newsletter, magazine, etc.) from your company. What do you do to grow its audience and revenue?

With this prompt, we get to work: Teams of 5 people from across the marketing and sales orgs band together to put together a transformative plan for their product. Then, we share back our plans for the products to the rest of the team for questions and discussion.

I love this prompt because it provides a subtle reframe with big impact. Inside an organization, our thinking is shaped by legacy processes, internal politics, and inherited limitations. When you flip the mental switch to “I own this now,” those constraints fade. You start thinking about urgency, risk-taking, and how to get the biggest return on your investment — fast.

My hope for the larger group is that they will:

  • Step into ownership mode by taking full control of a real product from their portfolio.
  • Identify growth levers (both audience and revenue) that they might have overlooked in their day-to-day work.
  • Prioritize bold moves that make sense.
  • Get excited about what can be vs. what is today.

Ownership strips away the organizational haze and forces clarity. When it’s yours, you stop asking, “What’s the process?” and start asking, “What’s the fastest path to growth?”

How to Win the Fight for Reach & Relevance Last week, Andrew presented a framework for success with algorithms at Content Marketing World. If you missed it, we’re recapping the highlights below. Most content doesn’t fail because it’s bad. It fails because it never had a chance. Algorithms make the call before an audience ever does. And in feeds built on endless choice, that means the difference between seen by millions and buried instantly. Whether you’re battling for reach on TikTok,...

This week, we’re sharing in detail how to do it. Revmade’s Chief Strategy Officer, Andrew Hanelly, spoke at Content Marketing World last year, and the video of his session was just released. Watch it here: The video goes into depth on one of our most successful projects, and it’s packed full of ideas to steal. Thanks as...

Why aren’t more brands turning their experts into creators? Creators are dominant at delivering expert advice to audiences. Their ability to hook you early, quickly demonstrate why you should listen to them, then break down complex topics in resonant ways is redefining how video content can educate and influence. As a result, they’re also amassing engagement, and importantly, trust. Brands also want engagement, influence, and trust. Most brands are also sitting on a goldmine of industry...
