6 Strategies To Scale Up Your Small Wins

I am obsessed with small wins. You should be, too.

Small wins add up to big wins, of course. But that’s not the only reason that I love them.

I love them because they create the conditions that make a bigger plan possible. They shift perception and build real momentum for a project. For entrepreneurial people who want to do something different, they help silence naysayers and those that are fearful of change.

Here’s what to do to move from a plan to a small win series, and just in general to get more small wins into your life:

  • Start with your skeptics. When I kick off something new, I like to start with what the most vocal, influential and/or skeptical stakeholders care about. A small win for them is more meaningful and will travel across the organization faster, driving the project’s reputation up.
  • Find the “almost there” stuff. Small wins have to be quickly achievable, so first figure out where the easy paths are. Maybe it’s something your company came close to implementing that was shelved for timing. Maybe it’s an email with the highest ever CTR; maybe it’s simply implementing a sleek deck that gets everyone on the same page.
  • Push to produce, even when it’s messy. Getting lost in planning cycles feels really bad. Push for production to be faster, even if the finished product isn’t perfect, so you can start learning and adapting.
  • Time it right. Timing your work to coincide with industry moments or even key company announcements can help you ride an existing wave of interest.
  • Send a strong email. Send a short email that puts the win in the subject line and in the first line of the email out. Share evidence in the form of screenshots and graphics, and tie it back to the overall goals of the campaign. Think of it like a momentum report, and send it regularly.
  • Say it again and again. Don’t stop at an email — mention the win in meetings, put it as a case study in decks. We are so distracted today that repetition isn’t annoying, it’s necessary. For your project and your career, it’s important to be vocal about what’s going right.

Small wins aren’t small. They’re a critical part of making meaningful change happen at every point in your career.

I’m cheering you on, and if you ever want to chat about the small wins that lead to big wins, I’m here.

How to Win the Fight for Reach & Relevance Last week, Andrew presented a framework for success with algorithms at Content Marketing World. If you missed it, we’re recapping the highlights below. Most content doesn’t fail because it’s bad. It fails because it never had a chance. Algorithms make the call before an audience ever does. And in feeds built on endless choice, that means the difference between seen by millions and buried instantly. Whether you’re battling for reach on TikTok,...

Why aren’t more brands turning their experts into creators? Creators are dominant at delivering expert advice to audiences. Their ability to hook you early, quickly demonstrate why you should listen to them, then break down complex topics in resonant ways is redefining how video content can educate and influence. As a result, they’re also amassing engagement, and importantly, trust. Brands also want engagement, influence, and trust. Most brands are also sitting on a goldmine of industry...
